SAT Vocabulary - Securing your place in college
The SATs are used in the United States of America to objectively determine the suitability of students for college level doctoral programs and they are very simple, the higher the end score, the more doctoral programs the student can have access to. Whilst the intended effects of the SATs are straightforward enough, the actual test itself is and can be an extremely grueling affair for the student and little wonder, given the huge amount of pressure placed on them. The saddest thing is where many youngsters end up doing poorly and therefore as a result fail to achieve their maximum potential because of their exam nerves and stress.
The SATS have been carefully designed and created in such a way so as to test the various academic abilities of the student and which the student will require at a college/university level hence the rationale of the higher the score, the more opportunities available. SATs consist of three different sections in total, and the Reading section is the segment which seems to give the most difficulty to the students as it requires the student to critically analyze and weigh the significance as well as meaning of the writing presented.
The texts that are used for this section tend to be saturated with technical jargon and Formal English, and so in most cases the unprepared student gets easily flustered and caught off guard as a result meaning that their work suffers a result. A strong grounding and appreciation for grammar will be ideal in order to break down and properly analyze the text regardless of what subject or discipline it is derived from and will help the student more readily identify why the author has chosen that particular punctuation mark to convey an issue.
The Critical Reading component of the SAT acts as the sat vocabulary list, as this section contains a number of sentence fragments which the student will be required to complete, and whilst this is a test of the vocabulary of the student, options are provided in a multiple choice format meaning that the student must pick the relevant words, on the basis of the best match. The incomplete sentence component of the SAT is rather small especially in comparison to the remainder of the SAT as a whole, however this is no excuse for you as the student to get complacent about the sat vocabulary list.
The SAT is a challenging test indeed and put bluntly, ever single point counts, so make sure you do your level best!
